Slice of Life

I liked doing the slice of life challenge. It was fun. At the beginning, I didn't know if I could write for thirty days. I learned that it was easy. Every day I thought of the best part of my day and that's what I tried to write about. I'm proud to have so many slices now. I'm grateful my mom types for me. I think I'll keep writing next year...maybe even before that. Thanks to everyone who read my slices. I liked reading your comments.

Earth Art

Today, I was at school. My teacher told us we were going to do a craft. I wondered what we were making. My teacher said that we were going to make an Earth. She called on people while we were coloring a penguin. Ms. Puskar called me. I needed paper and blue, white, and green paint. You make a lot of dots with the paint on once of your circle papers. Then you take a second circle and smush them together. When I pulled them apart, it looked like the Earth. I felt proud and excited about my artwork. My teacher is going to hang them, double-sided, from our classroom ceiling.

Dinner

I was eating dinner with my family. Wren was eating eggs. Mom was eating spasta (spaghetti squash pasta). Dad was eating porkchops. Rose was eating yogurt. I was eating noodles. My hands were all greasy because I wasn't using my fork. We don't always get to eat dinner all together during the week. When we do eat together, we play "peaches and pits." It's where you tell your peach, which is the best part of your day and your pit is the worst part of the day. My peach was eating dinner together. I didn't have a pit!

Dog at School

I was at school one warm fall day. It was the end of the day and the bell had just rung to go home. I walked out with my class and searched for my dad. Suddenly, I saw a dog running across the field. Ariana was holding the door open for more people to come out. The dog ran into school. I wondered where it would run. It ran up the stairs, but it couldn't go any further because there was a door. So, he ran back out of the school. Our principal put the dog on a leash and found the dog's owner. It was good that the dog got out of the school safely.

ART

It was a Tuesday afternoon. "Do we have art today?" I asked Ms. Puskar  "Yes,"  she said. I could not wait to  finish  making our pencil sculptures. We had been working on them for a long time. When we got there I  said hi to Ms. Booska. I got the paint so me and Mia could finish our pencils. I got pink, yellow,  brown and white. I also got  a smock. I mixed the brown and white to make tan for the wood part. I used pink for the eraser and I used yellow to paint the outside of the pencil."Are we going to do the silver part today?"  "No," said Ms. Booska. When it was time to go, me and Mia cleaned up.

A Good Day

It was just a good day. 1. I ate a yummy muffin for breakfast. 2. We played with the toy bin at school. 3. I had a yummy lunch.  4. I passed three levels on ST Math. 5. Recess was fun. 6. We played math BINGO. I didn't win but it was still fun. 7. My teacher read us a story. 8. We had reading and I read poems. 9.  We had music and we sang a lot of songs. 10. We wrote weekend news and I had a lot to write about. 11. We did Lexia. I learned about bats. 12. We did GoNoodle and listened to We Don't Talk About Bruno at school. 13. I had dance class. I had contemporary and ballet. I like doing splits. 14. I got to eat dinner with my mom. 15. Then we wrote this list together.

Count Down

Image
"My birthday is in eleven days," I said to my mom. I went downstairs and looked at our construction paper. I wondered what I could make. So, I decided to make a paper chain that had ten loops. Every day, I'll take one off until I get to one and then it's my birthday. To make the chain, I used orange and blue paper. To put the loops together, I used tape. I wrote the numbers on each loop to help keep track of the day. I put stickers on the number one loop, because that will be my birthday. I can't wait!

Park

Image
"Can we go to the park?" Rose asked. She had been wanting to go for a long time.  "After we do everything that we need to do," my mom said. So we waited and waited. Finally, my mom said, "Let's go. Fill up you water bottle." I got ready and then we got in my mom's car. We drove to the park at the beach.  When we got out, I saw sand and then the park! I ran to the park with my sisters. I played on the tunnel slide. When I got to the end of the slide, my sister came down. We climbed back up. I had a lot of sand in my shoes. I sat down to dump it out. Then we played on the swings. I went very high. My mom said, "Time to go," I said as we walked to her. It was a fun day.

Farm

Image
It was a regular day. I woke up and my mom said, "Do you want to go to the farm?" She meant the one we had gone to on my birthday last year. I couldn't wait to show the farm to my sisters. There are so many goats there that you can feed. Goats are my first favorite animal.  So, when my Mimi and Poppy got to our house, we went in the car. When we got to the farm, I already saw one little goat. When we got out of the car, we got the goat food from the man. Then we walked and saw the goats on the bridge. I fed them. It tickled a little bit. There were also baby goats. I didn't get a chance to feed them because they kept sitting down.  Then we also saw some alpacas. They didn't come too close. I tried to get their attention by yelling for them to come over. It didn't work. So, then we went to the cow. My sister loved feeding the cow because it tickled. It even made her hands all slobbery.  When it was time to go, we went to wash our hands because they were slobbe

Hike

Image
It was a warmer day today. My family planned to go on a hike with my Mimi and Poppy. We drove to a new place nearby. When we got out of the car, we started to walk on the trail. While we were walking, we saw a river. We went off the trail to get a closer look at the river. We took a picture next to it. We also climbed some rocks. When we finished by the river, we climbed back up the hill and continued our hike. After about two miles of walking, it started to get tiring. We decided to turn back around because we had to go back two more miles to get to the car. "Are we almost to the finish line?" my sister Rose kept asking. I couldn't wait to get back to the car. There were benches along the path. We stopped to take a little break. After some more walking, we finally got to the parking lot. I was so happy to be able to sit.

New Room

Image
It was a regular day. We just bought a new house but we hadn't moved in yet. It was going to be the first day that we slept there. My mom and dad had put together my bed while me and my sisters were at my grandma's house. When my dad picked me up from Grandma's house, we went to our new house to see our rooms.  First, we saw Rose's room, then Wren's. Then, finally, we saw my room. I had never had my own room before. When I stepped inside, it was pretty. I couldn't wait to sleep on my bed in my new room.

Fire

It was Monday morning after Easter. My mom was making muffins. My sister was making scones. After everything came out of the oven, my mom and I were reading other slices of life at the kitchen counter. "Fire!" my mom screamed. I was confused for a second. Then I saw the stove and there was a fire. I wasn't confused anymore. My sisters ran outside and I followed them. Then, a loud noise went off. It was the smoke alarm. My mom called my downstairs because he was working upstairs. He ran down the stairs to see what was going on. While I was outside, I wondered what was going on inside. I hoped that the house wouldn't stink. My dad put out the fire with a glass of water. My mom said we could come in. The house smelled like burnt toast. My mom opened all the doors. It still didn't smell good, but I went downstairs and forgot about it. When I came back up, it almost smelled normal again.

Easter

Image
It was Easter morning. Me and my sisters just woke up. My mom said, "You have to wait until 8:00 to go down." It was still 7:15. So me and my sisters waited so long. When it was 8:00, my sisters Wren and Rose opened their doors and said "Happy Easter." I said it at the same time.  My mom made her coffee and my sisters and I sat on the couch behind our Easter baskets. After the coffee was ready, she said, "You can open them."  Once we looked at everything, my Lego markers and my Bunny Lego set were my favorite things. Then, we emptied our baskets and used them to find all the eggs hidden around the house. Once all the eggs were found, we emptied the candy into a big bowl and saved the eggs. Later that day, I found another egg still hidden on the couch.  I was so happy to have the Easter Day with my family. "Thank you, Easter Bunny," I said.

Movie Night

It was a Saturday night and me and my family were going to have movie night. We were going to watch Turning Red. We usually pop popcorn. My mom got out the pop corn kernels, the candy, and the pop corn maker.  When the kernels were done popping we put in the candy. We put milk duds and Swedish Fish.  We brought them in the basement and we watched Turning Red. It was a good movie and good popcorn!

Fun

Image
I was outside with my family. We were walking my dogs. "Is that Ava?" said my dad. "I think so," I said.  Ava came towards us. Our moms started talking to each other while we were climbing the tree. "Do you want to stay at Adi's house to play?"said Ava's mom.  "Yes," said Ava. I was happy. We have never had a playdate before. We went inside. Ava ate waffles. After that we played downstairs. We played with the remote control car. Wren controlled it first, then Ava, me, and finally Rose. "That was so much fun," said Ava. "Do you want to decorate cookies?" Wren asked us? "Yes," we all said as we ran up the stairs. Wren had already made the cookies. We just had to frost them. We made yellow, blue, white, and pink frosting for the cookies. We decorated them with sprinkles. They looked beautiful.  The doorbell rang. "Who could that be?" I wondered. It was Ava's mom. I got Ava her scooter and she left.

Art

Me and my family were at the high school in our town. We were helping to make ceramic poppies that will be displayed at town hall. There were other things to do there. I started off making seed balls. First, you needed clay. You spread it out like a pancake. Then I sprinkled dirt on the clay. Then I sprinkled seeds on top. Next, I took the clay off the table and rolled it up like a taco. Then I pulled it apart and rolled it all back together into a ball. Once the clay balls dry, they get hard like a rock and you can plant them.  Then, we went in the hall. We saw the bridge that connects two buildings. We went on the bridge and looked down at the cars. It was so beautiful.  When I got home, I said "Thank you mommy for a good night."

Plant

Image
It was a Sunday morning. I had just woke up. i got out of my bed. I went to the window to see what the wether was. that was when i saw my plant. The flowers had finally opened.  It was so pretty. I was so excited to tell my mom and my dad but they were still asleep and i did not want to wake them up. So, I went downstair to watch tv. I had forgotten all about my plant. Later that day, i remembered about my plant. So, I told my mom all about it and she wanted to see it. When I went to show my mom, the flowers were closed. I thought someone broke it. My mom told me that some plant plants open in the daytime and some plants close at night.  The next day, when the sun came out, the flowers opened again. I showed my mom as soon as I woke up. She thought it was cool.

Moving

It was Monday morning and the bell had just rung to go inside. My dad waved goodbye. I went up the stairs towards my classroom. I opened the door for another girl. Then I went to line up outside my classroom and wait for my teacher to greet us. She came out of the bathroom and gave each of us an elbow bump. Ariana walked in first. She said, "Whoa!" My teacher said, "Oh yeah. I forgot to tell you I moved the desks." I went inside the classroom and looked really different. My desk was now in the front row, but I was still next to Shahid. On my other side was Jeremiah. My teacher said, "Wave to the person next to you." So, I did.  The people who came in after us were so confused. They asked why their seats were moved. Ms. Puskar said, "They haven't been moved in a while." She wanted to give us someone new to talk to for our turn and talk partners.  I was excited for my new spot.

Outside

It was Sunday and I was outside. Me, my Grandma, my mom and my sisters were planting in the yard. We went into the front yard to plant the flowers by the door. Jack and Grace, our neighbors, were outside. I said, "Hi!" Then, Jack and his mom came to our yard. We were playing soccer and then all of a sudden, Sebbie, another neighbor came. Dad asked if he wanted to play soccer with us. So he came and played. Then, Grace came out. We asked her if she wanted to come over too. She said, "Yes." She crossed the street and she asked what we were doing. Then Grace, Sebbie, and Rose went into the garage to get the wagon. I pulled Grace and Rose first. Then it was Jack and Sebbie's turn to go for a ride in the wagon. "Weee," Jack said.  Soon, it was dinner time and everyone went inside. I thought, "I can't wait for another day to play outside with my neighbors."

Famous.

I was at school and we had just finished math. Ms. Puskar went to her computer. I wondered what she was doing. She pulled up my Slice of Life Blog on the Smart Board. I knew my mom had shared my blog with her. "Adi has something to show you. Do you want to explain? Ms. Puskar asked me. So, I said, "This is my blog that me and my sister do every day." My class seemed impressed. My teacher went onto the piece about the store our class had during indoor recess. I read it out loud. Then, I read the one I wrote about the paint spilling on St. Patrick's Day.  When I was done, Ms. Puskar said to everybody, "You guys should write your own blog that's a slice of you." Then Ms. Puskar asked me if everyone could see my writing and I told her they could. "You are famous," she said. I smiled because I felt happy.

I am Grateful

I am grateful for.... my mom my dad my sisters my family and my dogs. I'm grateful for.... food, especially grilled cheese, pizza, and mac and cheese. I'm especially grateful for animals including goats, bunnies, and frogs. I'm grateful for my house It holds all my great stuff and keeps me safe and warm. I'm grateful for... the trees for giving me paper and the whole entire earth.

A Fun Night

My Dad was picking me up from school. "We will go to Jack and Grace's," he exclaimed. I was excited because I hadn't seen them in a long time. We walked to their house, because they're our neighbors. When we got there, Wren rang the doorbell. We took off our shoes and coats. Jack was on his microphone. He said, "Do you want to play upstairs?" "Yes," I said along with my sisters. We followed Jack upstairs. Then, their dog Winnie came up. We were playing the Winnie game. We all stood on the bed and Winnie came up too. He did some tricks on Grace's bed.  "We're having a lot of fun," I thought.  Then it was time to leave, we didn't really do a great job cleaning. We got our shoes and coats back on. We all said, "Bye." Then we walked home. I can't wait to have another fun night like that again.

Costume

Image
Monday night at dance, Miss Sidney said that we were going to try on our ballet recital costumes at the end of class. "I was thinking it would probably look pretty on me." All during dance class, I kept thinking, "I can't wait to try on the costume." When it was finally time, I thought it was pretty. It was pink with a lot of sparkles. When I tried it on, I felt like a princess. I can't wait to wear my costume on stage.

RAINY RECESS

It was a rainy day at school and we had indoor recess. I had been waiting for a long time for a rainy day because me and my friends had been making stuff to have a store. I had made a lot of finger weaving chains out of yarn to sell. Some of my other friends made paintings and fans. When it was time for recess, I went to my backpack to get the finger weavings. I laid them all on my desk and I put up the "open" sign. My first customer was Aidan. He bought the Christmas colored chain. It was five cents. He said, "thank you." I said, "You're welcome." Then everyone bought a lot. I only have one more left. Even my teacher, Ms. Puskar, bought one. She got a purple one. She asked if I had a mirror, so she could see how the chain looked on her. We had so much fun. I hope tomorrow is another rainy day.

Surprise!

Image
"Duck!" said Mimi. Everyone ducked down behind the counter. We were waiting for Jenny to come because we were planning her a surprise party. As I was crouching down, I was thinking, "She must already know we are here." We saw her car and then we all got quiet. We heard the door open. "Hello," came a voice. It was Jenny. We all stood up and said, "Surprise!" She acted surprised because she was. Everyone hugged her and said "Happy birthday!" After all the hugging, we ate. I ate noodles and eggplant. "Mmmmm," I said. After cake, everyone got tired and left. I was tired too.

Introducing Wren, Adi, and Rose

Yesterday was a rainy day and I was playing in the basement with my sisters, Wren and Rose. We were playing dress up with all our old dance costumes. We were going to do a performance for my mom and dad. We got on three layers of clothes so we could pull them off while we danced. We thought it would be funny to reveal new costumes.  When it was time to perform, Wren plugged our Alexa in upstairs. We played Surface Pressure from Encanto . We didn't really have a plan, but Wren told us what to do while we were dancing. It was funny every time we changed our clothes.  Later, my grandma came over and we did the performance again. It was a fun way to spend a rainy day.

Cornbread

"Can I make cornbread?" I asked my mom as she was still laying in her bed this morning.  "Sure," she said. "Go turn the oven on. Press Bake. 3-5-0. Start." I repeated "bake 3.5.0. start" as I headed back towards the kitchen. My mom finally came down and pulled up a recipe on her phone. She got some of the ingredients for me, like the baking powder, flour, and sugar.  I got to work measuring and mixing. I asked my mom how much butter to put in the microwave. She said, "Five and 1/3 tablespoons." I cut the butter and put it in the bowl my mom handed me. I put the butter in the microwave for thirty seconds and got back to mixing. I poured the batter into the pan and mom put it in the over. That's when we heard the microwave beep. "What's in the microwave? Did you remember to put the butter in?" she asked. "Oh no!" I thought. How would the cornbread taste without butter?  Mom said, "No big deal," as she

Heart

Image
It was St. Patrick's Day and I was at school. My class was going to paint a rainbow. Earlier that day we had worked together to make a leprechaun trap. The rainbow was going to go with the trap. We all started off painting the red. When I finished painting the red, Ms. Puskar said, "There is no orange, so you'll have to make it with yellow and red." I dipped my paint brush into the yellow and before I knew it, the red cup of paint spilled off my desk. "Oh no!" I said as I stood there not knowing what to do. Everyone gathered paper towels and then I said, "This is shaped kind of like a heart!" Jake said, "I think the leprechaun did that!"

The Zoo

Image
It was a sunny day and me and my family were going to The Bronx Zoo because we had a four day weekend. On the way we wondered, "what kind of animals will we see there?" "Are there polar bears?" said Wren.  When we finally got to the zoo, we walked in and showed a lady our tickets. Then we walked to the first animal which was zebras. We did a lot of walking that day. I kept looking for the goats. But we never saw them because the farm exhibit was closed that day. But we did, turtles, giraffes, elephants, and tigers. My favorite was the seals. There were all sleeping on the rocks. I kept wishing one would jump off and go for a swim.  After we saw everything at the zoo, I was happy but tired of walking. We thought we were walking the right way to the car, but we weren't. We had to walk across the whole zoo again to find our car. When we finally got to the car, I was ready to sit. It was a fun day.
